“Your name will also go on the lavender, what is it?” “Don’t tell him Pike!” A new variety of lavender has been named after Ian Lavender, famous for playing Private Pike in the TV sitcom Dad’s Army

Many plants are launched at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and named after famous faces, but few will have been as ecstatic as Ian Lavender.

A new variety of lavender called ‘Ian Lavender’ has made the Dad’s Army star very happy. Launched at Chelsea Flower Show, Ian was over the moon to see the plant at the show.

“I am genuinely excited, even overjoyed to have a lavender named after me! When I saw it my heart fluttered! My wife started the process of having a new lavender named after me 10 years ago as a birthday present and what a wonderful present it is to see it at the show.”

“The word exciting is used too much these days. You hear about ‘exciting’ offers on insurance or ‘there’s an exciting new product in our cheese aisle’! But having a plant named after you is really exciting!”
